Posada Fin Del Mundo in the Putumayo jungle in Colombia is a great little gem where you will feel very welcome. A posada is the name for a basic guesthouse in Latin America, normally where the owners also live on-site. Here you are away from society and can immerse yourself completely in nature.
This homestay is owned by a local Colombian couple. The man organizes guided tours to the Fin Del Mundo waterfall and the surrounding jungle, and the woman manages the guesthouse and cooks for you. The decoration around the entire guesthouse is very stylish and all hand-made. The family also lives here full time, so they completely take care of all the things around the homestay.
The surrounding area is beautiful, you are in the middle of the jungle. Monkeys and other wild animals often come to visit here. You have to walk a bit to reach this posada, which is located on the same way towards the waterfall itself.
The rooms are basic but clean. There is a shared bathroom and toilet, which is good to save water. Some have a double bed and others have twin beds. In total there are no more than seven rooms so it’s very small and private. This means that it’s easy to meet other people. There are community areas to hang out and have your meals with other guests.
This stay is built with locally-sourced materials, and owned by locals who are born and raised in the area. They provide drinking water refills and wash their sheets with water from the environment. The family raises their own farm animals and uses their own fish for their dishes. They also sell souvenirs that are made by the indigenous community of the Amazon. The prices are very fair and your stay will directly support the community of this area.
